About Me

Hello! Welcome!

My name is Kathy and I am a Senior User Researcher with experience in data and AI software. Like other UXers, I had an unconventional path to the role. I started out in undergrad with dreams of becoming a museum curator or an archeologist and so I received a double major from the University of Miami in Art History and Anthropology with a minor in Classics.

After graduating I worked at art galleries in Miami and made my way into teaching art to elementary school students. At this point I hadn’t quite found my career fit but the fundamentals of my past experiences and learning remained:

  • Cultural anthropology made me love understanding people, cultures, and society and why we do the things we do

  • Biological anthropology taught me how our bodies and cognition influence our lived experiences

  • Art history taught me the fundamentals of art and visual patterns

  • Teaching young students taught me the importance of molding my words and presentations to meet people where they are so that my message comes across clearly

Because of this when I learned about UX/UI design and research, it felt like a great fit and I received my M.S. in Human Factors and Ergonomics from San Jose State University.

I started with an internship at IBM Cloud and Cognitive Design during my Masters and transitioned to a full-time role on graduating. I love being able to work closely with product teams to inform directions with real user insights.
