About Me
Hello! Welcome!
My name is Kathy and I am a Senior User Researcher with experience in data and AI software. Like other UXers, I had an unconventional path to the role. I started out in undergrad with dreams of becoming a museum curator or an archeologist and so I received a double major from the University of Miami in Art History and Anthropology with a minor in Classics.
After graduating I worked at art galleries in Miami and made my way into teaching art to elementary school students. At this point I hadn’t quite found my career fit but the fundamentals of my past experiences and learning remained:
Cultural anthropology made me love understanding people, cultures, and society and why we do the things we do
Biological anthropology taught me how our bodies and cognition influence our lived experiences
Art history taught me the fundamentals of art and visual patterns
Teaching young students taught me the importance of molding my words and presentations to meet people where they are so that my message comes across clearly
Because of this when I learned about UX/UI design and research, it felt like a great fit and I received my M.S. in Human Factors and Ergonomics from San Jose State University.
I started with an internship at IBM Cloud and Cognitive Design during my Masters and transitioned to a full-time role on graduating. I love being able to work closely with product teams to inform directions with real user insights.
